Welcome

Who writes this thing, anyway?

Hey, reader. Welcome to my little blog. Really, this blog is not for me, but for you. I’ve told myself many times that to start a blog be a frivolous and self-indulgent venture, but then the Lord gently calmed my self-deprecating fears with the truth that maybe this blog will uplift somebody out there. So without further ado…

My name is Christina! I am a 25-year old woman just doing my best to love God and serve Him with everything. I love making music, singing, dancing, writing, learning languages, and cooking (and I still manage to sleep, A LOT).

I love, love, love Mother Church and have truly found my home in Her. At the same time, sometimes I feel a little out of place. I’m Catholic by baptism and African-American by blood, so I don’t always get the chance to meet others that share my faith and my cultural background, or understand the joy and heartache that comes with that unique intersection of identities. Don’t worry–-this blog will not be an endless rant dripping with identity politics. My true hope is for all my sisters in Christ that have an ache in their heart for a deeper communion with their fellow black sisters in Christ, and for their friends, that we may all grow together as one family in Him.

Why is this blog called Formosa?

“Nigra sum sed formosa.”
Song of Songs 1:5

Formosa means beautiful in Latin. My good friends will tell you that I am a word nerd, a lover of all things language. I’ll never forget on my first real retreat when a speaker said that one of the fundamental desires of woman is to be beautiful. Formosa is meant to be an invitation to all women, but also in a particular way to my black sisters in Christ, as a reminder to them that they are beautiful and beloved.

His beautiful one,

Christina
